After devouring Broadbent’s The Serpent and the Wings of Night (review here), I couldn’t wait to start reading her next book, Daughter of No Worlds. My Review

Daughter of No Worlds by Carissa Broadbent is a hidden gem that seems to be flying under the radar, and it is a missed opportunity! Broadbent beautifully weaves together love, magic, resilience, and a healthy dash of humor. She masterfully paints a vibrant, immersive world inhabited by complex characters, intricate relationships, and a unique magic system that brings it all to life. The relationships were the first thing to hook me, especially the development between Tisaanah and Max.

The story centers around Tisaanah, who is a breath of fresh air. Despite her traumatic past as a slave and the loss of her family, she retains a striking positivity and resilience. She is also relatable. Her struggle with a new language leads to some truly amusing interactions that make her all the more endearing.

The other half of this magnetic duo is Max. He may be a grumpy gardener who starts off a bit standoffish, but don’t be fooled, he’s fiercely loyal and a staunch supporter of Tisaanah’s dreams. Their friendship, blossoming into a slow-burning, passionate romance, is one of the most satisfying progressions I’ve read in a while.

Their journey from enemies to lovers was beautifully paced, making their story feel real and satisfying. Broadbent cleverly sprinkles humor throughout their relationship, mainly through Tisaanah’s language barrier, which leads to amusing misunderstandings and playful banter. This light-heartedness adds authenticity and charm to their bond.

As their connection deepens into romance, it unfurls in a way that’s both passionate and grounded. We see their vulnerabilities and fears and experience the strength that comes from their shared experiences. It’s a narrative that’s as powerful as it is tender, emphasizing the depth of their bond and the transformative power of love.

Another element that sets this story apart is the unique magic system. The world is alive with diverse magical abilities, each person wielding a distinct form of magic. This vibrant and ever-evolving landscape adds an exciting layer that keeps you eagerly turning pages.
