My Review

Bookworms, I have to tell you, The Tea Dragon Society is pure, unfiltered joy. This book wrapped around my heart like a cozy blanket and never let go. From the pastel-toned illustrations to the gentle storytelling, every page is filled with softness, sincerity, and a deep love for tradition, friendship, and healing.

Greta’s journey, from blacksmith apprentice to tea dragon caretaker, is quietly powerful. As she learns the rhythms of an almost-forgotten craft, she also discovers how to support others, how to listen deeply, and how to carry forward the legacy of those who came before her. Watching her form new friendships with Hesekiel, Erik, and the sweetly reserved Minette is nothing short of magical.

And we need to talk about the dragons. Tiny, whimsical creatures with herbs growing from their horns? Yes, please. Each one is unique and memorable: Jasmine, Rooibos, Chamomile. These little dragons are more than adorable companions. They carry memories, healing, and history in their leaves. I turned the last page wishing I had a tea dragon of my own to curl up beside.

Kay O’Neill’s world-building is subtle yet rich, full of inclusive details that are never performative. This is a story where everyone belongs. People of color, queer characters, those living with memory loss, and those who use wheelchairs are all part of this world, and their presence feels both natural and necessary. It is a world shaped by care, not conflict.

The Tea Dragon Handbook at the end is such a thoughtful addition. It extends the world in a way that is fun, especially for young readers, and gives you a reason to linger in the magic a little longer. It reminded me of the joy of reading companion guides as a kid and wanting to collect every last detail.

If you are looking for something wholesome, inclusive, and heart meltingly beautiful, this is the one. Tell your to-do list to wait. You deserve a book like The Tea Dragon Society in your life.
